We use a courier service which delivers to any mainland UK address (delivery to the North of Scotland and Northern Ireland is extra – please call for details). Orders are delivered Monday to Friday between 09.00 and 17.30 to your preferred address, be that your home address or your work address. You will receive an email on the day of delivery giving you a one-hour time slot to expect the items. Hire items will be collected from the same address at the end of your rental period.
As a general rule, we do not deliver direct to campsites. It is your responsibility, as the hirer, to sign for the order when delivered by our courier. Generally campsite owners will be too busy checking their own customers in to deal with your equipment and store it for you until you arrive – bear in mind we cannot specify an exact time of delivery, only a particular date.
3. Can I collect my camping gear order from you?
As an online-only business, we do not have the premises to accept customers to come and visit, sorry. If you live in the Redhill or Reigate (RH1/RH2) area, we will happily personally deliver your order to you and reduce your delivery charge to £2.95.
By way of a deposit, we take credit card or debit card details from you about a week before your hire is due to commence. These are held in a secure, encrypted environment for the duration of your hire and until the hire items have been checked upon their return (up to a week after the hire period). If damage, excess dirt or loss has occurred, then you would be notified by email that a payment to your card will be made. For further details on likely charges, please see our Terms and Conditions. If you respect the hire equipment and send it back in good condition, obviously no charges will be made and we will destroy your credit or debit card details securely immediately after the post-hire check is completed.
In very rare cases, extreme bad weather may cause unavoidable damage to the tent. As part of your contract to us, you are agreeing to follow sensible guidelines and instructions in using the camping equipment, which will in most cases avoid damage occurring. We would assess such an incident of damage on a case by case basis and cannot rule out charging you for replacement of the whole tent. As a general rule, our policy tends to be more lenient. We are looking into offering a tent damage waiver as an optional extra.
Your tent will be delivered to your chosen address in working hours (09.00 to 17.30) on your specified day (Monday to Friday only). We do suggest that you state a safe place to leave the package, in case you have to pop out - that could be in the shed or porch or with a neighbour. If the courier has no such instructions, they may post you a card with details of how you need to go and collect it from their depot local to you. Remember you can have the package delivered to your workplace if that is easier for you.
Your hire tent will be collected from you on the last day of your agreed hire period, as stated in your order with Contented Camping. You need to box it back up in the packaging you received it in and seal it back up with your own sticky tape. The driver will arrive with labels addressed back to us, so you don’t need to worry about that. The driver will arrive between 09.00 and 17.00 on your agreed day (usually it’s an afternoon pick-up once they’ve cleared a lot of their deliveries from the van).
8. What if I want to keep the tent I’ve hired and buy it off you after my hire period?
You would need to call or email us to discuss. Depending on how booked up we are immediately proceeding your hire, we would offer you a competitive price, taking into consideration how many times your particular tent had been used by the given point in the camping season.
If we have your hire items in stock, we can get a tent hire out to you within 24 hours if you book before noon and 48 hours, if after noon. However, we do get very busy in the summer season, so we would recommend at least 2-3 weeks or even longer, to avoid disappointment.
Please phone or email us to discuss. We of course will help you do that whenever possible, but it might already be booked out straight after your booking and we need it back as originally agreed.
Unfortunately this is not a service we offer. The tents we hire out are selected for their ease of pitching and supplied with full pitching instructions and a mallet. It’s not as difficult as you might think, and most other campers are friendly souls who will like nothing better than to help out a camping novice arriving on a campsite. Don’t be shy – accept their offer of help if you need it!
We used to, but are now focusing on the expensive-to-buy tents only for rental. We offer a range of reasonably priced essentials for camping, to get you started at minimal cost. If you don’t want to buy now, see what you can use from home – you can always take the duvet instead of sleeping bags, use the garden furniture and take the kids' plastic plates and cups.
We do want you to be delighted with the bargains you’ve purchased from our Used Camping Gear section. If this is not the case, then please see our Returns Policy for details on how we will refund you.
